The Little Creek Nature Area is a 97-acre outdoor educational facility owned and operated by the Ferguson-Florissant School District.  Since 1974, teachers have provided ecology, environmental science, field biology and living history programs for district students. Intuition & Logic provided design and construction services for The Little Creek Watershed and Stream Stabilization Project, funded under Section 319 of the Clean Water Act and administered by the St. Louis County Soil and Water Conservation District.

Widespread channel incision, bank erosion and bank slumping were damaging the Little Creek channel through the nature area. The project goal was to restore the channel to a stable configuration and provide aquatic and terrestrial habitat through bio-stabilization. The final design included 1,450 LF of channel restoration, 120 LF of 30” - 54” RCP, 42” - 72” manhole, modular block retaining wall, 9 rock grade control structures including a traversable grade control with steps made out of ledge stone boulders, bio-stabilized composite bank revetments, one pedestrian bridge and sanitary sewer pipe replacement and protection.

During construction, I&L provided regular site visits, measured lines and grades, checked material stock, recorded visible variations to plans and specifications and prepared and submitted construction observation reports.
